F.A.Q.
Why Sports Performance at ABT?
As sports become more competitive and more specialized, it is becoming clearer that proper sports performance training plays a huge part in injury prevention and maximizing athletic potential. Many parents sign up their kids for numerous sports clubs and leagues without building the foundation that all athletes need to become a better overall athlete. The foundation of our program consists of muscular strength, power, speed, muscular endurance, flexibility, coordination, balance, nutrition, self-esteem and confidence.
What kind of athletes train at ABT?
Athletes of all ages and abilities train at ABT. Each program is designed to cater to the individual needs and goals of all of our clients. An individual does not need to be a high end athlete to participate in training at ABT.
How does ABT decide which group an athlete should be in?
Athletes are grouped together based on their biological age, training age, skill level, and evaluation assessment. The evaluation or trial class is the key to getting started in the appropriate group.
What are the programs available for my athlete at ABT?
The Programs available are: Speed School, Developmental-middle school athletes, Performance-high school athletes, College, and Professional.
What does a typical group session entail?
Group training is the staple of the Sports Performance program at ABT. We found that athletes who participate in group training sessions have noticeably better results than athletes who train on their own. All of our Sports Performance sessions are scripted based on the level of the group from start to finish. Each session consists of a dynamic warm up, speed or agility drills, pollymetric (jumping) drills, age appropriate strength training (weights), and conditioning. All the athletes complete their sessions with individual areas of weakness, core work and static stretching.
What is the Coach to Athlete Ratio?
We keep a small coach to athlete ratio, approximately 1:6
Is ABT’s program Sport Specific?
The term sport specific is left for the actual sport they are involved with. Practices are for teaching the specific skills of their respective sport; how to shoot, how to pass, how to block, how to throw etc. A strength and conditioning program helps to build the foundation of an athlete: speed-strength-power. ABT’s focus is on proper athletic development.
How many days a week should my athlete workout?
Workouts are base on biological age, training level and current sports schedule. As a general recommendation, high school athletes during their off-season should train 3-4 days per week, junior high athletes and in-season high school athletes should train 1-2 days per week.
Will my child be in a group with other athletes of the same sport?
We are not against placing different athletes from different sports in the same group. Our goal is to build the foundation of each athlete through strength and conditioning. Sports skills come from practicing on the playing field. We do customize each program for the individual athletesí needs, weaknesses, energy systems used in their sport, sporting demands, etc.
My Athlete just completed physical therapy for an injury, how will he adapt into a program?
We have reconditioning sessions for those athletes that arenít quite ready for the full blown program. Both Liane and Rich Blyn have degrees in Sports Medicine and are Certified Athletic Trainers. Each athlete will be evaluated and the doctorís/physical therapists orders will be followed. Our goal is for the athlete to return to full participation as quickly and as safely as possible. We do not take insurance.
Can I bring my team in for team strength and conditioning training?
Team training can set up at our facility or at the athletes respective school with permission. Team training rates are available.
What happens if my child misses a session?
Training sessions are sold in session packages of 1, 6, and 12. Sessions are deducted each time the athlete comes in for a session. If an athlete is signed up for a session and does not show up, the session will be deducted. Please call or e-mail ahead if an athlete needs to cancel or reschedule. These sessions expire six month from date of purchase.
My son/daughter eats terrible, does ABT council the athletes on Nutrition?
Proper nutrition is a key component to a healthier, stronger athlete. We talk with our athletes on good food choices, pre-game meals, what to order when eating out, proper hydration and age appropriate nutritional supplements ie multi-vitamins and protein powders. We also have a nutritionist on staff that athletes and parents can set up an appointment with.
What types of Programs are available for Adults?
We offer Boot camps, small group training and personal training sessions. Sessions are run as early as 5:00 am and as late at 8pm.
